Paul Onuachu was not included in Super Eagles lineup as they file out against the Benin Republic in their AFCON 2022 qualifier at Port Novo.

The team list revealed an hour before kick-off as Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho was paired with Napoli Victor Osimhen in the attack.

Maduka Okoye was given the nod as the number while Fulham's Ola Aina and FC Porto's Zaidu Sanusi will be in charge of the wing-backs.

The 'Oyinbo Wall' duo of William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun will play at the heart of the defence.

The holding midfield position will be marshaled by Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo while the attacking formation will be completed by Henry Onyekuru, Iheanacho and Osimhen.

Onuachu is the third leading scorer in Europe this season with 25 league goals in 30 matches in the Jupiler League.

The 26-year-old was a last-minute inclusion after Moses Simon was allowed to leave his base in France.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that all is now set for the AFCON 2022 qualifier between the Republic of Benin and their Nigerian counterpart at the Stade de l'Amitie in Port Novo.

Both teams are separated by a point and a win for either side will ensure qualification to the biggest soccer fiesta in Africa in Cameroon with a match to spare.

The Super Eagles will be looking to end their unimpressive run following back-to-back draws against Sierra Leone in the last outings.

On the other hand, The Squirrels failed to leapfrog Nigeria on the Group L table after being held to a draw by Lesotho.

Legit.ng also reported that the much-anticipated AFCON 2022 qualifiers may have suffered a huge setback as reports claim that two Benin players have tested positive for coronavirus.

Renowned sports journalist Charles Anazodo made the revelation on his official Twitter handle as he said:

"Reports from Cotonou says two Benin Republic players have tested positive to Covid-19."
