Elon Musk has finally spoken out against claims that his family made their fortune through emerald mine during apartheid.
An article that ran on the satirical site The Onion recently reignited the debate over the source of Musk's fortune.
Musk took to Twitter to clear the air about his family and their wealth and revealed that the article was false and that he had arrived in Canada in 1989 with just CA$2,500 (N811,885.62 as per current rate).

He went further to explain that he had gone into debt to the tune of CA$100,000 (N32,477,471.77 as per current rate) in student fees.
Musk also stated that there was never an emerald mine and no connection to apartheid. According to him, he had actually left the country to avoid conscription. He explained that for the past 20 years he and his brother had supported his father and extended family.
The Save Journalism Committee interviewed Musk, and the billionaire shared the article, saying it told the truth about him.
He posted a short piece on Twitter explaining that an article published by another publication was not accurate.

In other news, Musk said vehicles manufactured by Tesla can now be purchased with bitcoin.
In a statement on his Twitter account, Musk said Tesla has begun receiving bitcoin payment, but it won't be receiving other cryptocurrencies.
He said the bitcoin received will not be converted into paper currency.
