Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho has been named among the eight players who will battle for the Premier League player of the month award for this month.

The 24-year-old played three games for Leicester City - inspiring them to victory twice and drawing the other one.

Iheanacho scored five goals in the period under review - three of which came against Sheffield United at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, March 14.

He was also on target against Brighton & Hove Albion as well as their 1-1 draw against Burnley in his side's first Premier League game in March.

The Super Eagles attacker stepped in for Brendan Rodgers' side in style after both James Maddison and Harvey Barnes were ruled out of action due to injuries.

  • Jesse Lingard
  • Riyad Mahrez
  • Illan Meslier
  • Luke Shaw
  • Leandro Trossard

However, the former youth international will contend with seven other Premier League stars for the prestigious award.

Other players shortlisted in the nominees' list are Andreas Christensen, Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jesse Lingard (West Ham United) and Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez.

Also, Manchester United's Luke Shaw, Leeds United's Illan Meslier as well as Leandro Trossard of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Away from the Premier League, Iheanacho also fired Leicester to FA Cup semifinals after scoring twice in their 3-1 win over Man United.

The attacker scored the opening and the final goals of the meeting while Youri Tielmans was also on target in the fixture.

They will now battle Southampton in the last four of the longest cup competitions in the history of football.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers will be delighted to hear that Nigerian star Kelechi Iheanacho will sign a new contract with the club this summer.

The 24-year-old has been in red-hot form for the Foxes after scoring seven goals in his last four appearances.

He inspired his side to the FA Cup semifinals after bagging a brace in their last eight fixture against Manchester United earlier this month.
