Jubilation in Spain as La Liga Team Named Best Club of the Decade, According to IFFHS

- Barcelona won several titles in the last decade including two Champions League trophies

- The Spanish giants have been named the best football club of the decade by the IFFHS

Spanish outfit Barcelona have been recognized as the best football club of the 21st century according to the International Federation of Football, History and Statistics (IFFHS).

The Catalan club has been named as the most outstanding club of the decade (2011-2020) as a result of their scintillating performance in the number of years.

Barcelona won several titles in the last ten years including six La Liga Santander titles, two UEFA Champions League titles as well as two Club World Cups.

Although the number of trophies won was not the criteria for the club to be chosen as outstanding, IFFHS takes into account the number of matches won, goals scored and goals conceded are also important.

The IFFHS ranking is led by Barcelona with 2,877 points, followed by Real Madrid, with 95 points less (2,782), and Bayern Munich (2,594.5).

Gremio Porto Alegrense are the first non-UEFA club to appear in the ranking, coming in 14th place.

By year, Barcelona were voted as the best club in 2011, 2012 and 2015, Real Madrid in 2015 and 2017, and Bayern Munich in 2013 and 2020.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has broken several La Liga records since he made his Spanish League debut for Barcelona senior team in 2005.

The 33-year-old currently holds the record for the most goals in the league as well as the most assists created in the topflight.

He has equally recorded the most wins and also remains the player with the most goals scored against other teams.

In 2012, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner stunned the globe after scoring a staggering 91 goals in a calendar year - 79 with Barca (59 in La Liga, 13 in the Champions League, 5 in the Copa del Rey, and 2 in the Spanish Super Cup) plus 12 with the Argentina national side.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to reunite with Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo amid reports that the superstar is set to leave Italian giants Juventus.

The former Real Madrid goal-machine has been heavily linked with a return to Santiago Bernabeu, but Juventus have insisted that he is going nowhere.

According to Fabio Paratici who is Juventus’ sporting director, Ronaldo will remain at the club beyond this season despite concerns about the value for money he brings to the team, given his reported €55 million-per-year (£47m/$65m) wages.
