House of Assembly Approves Nigerian governor’s N4.42 Billion Request to buy 355 Vehicles

The N4.42 billion request by Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to purchase 355 vehicles for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) has been approved.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lagos state House of Assembly on Thursday, March 25, passed the approval through a voice vote supervised by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa.
The House had received the request in a letter from the ministry of economic planning and budget headed by Gbolahan Yishawu.

The speaker during plenary explained that 355 vehicles were approved out of the 916 needed for various officials of the government.
Yishawu while presenting the report to the House noted that the committee had invited the state’s Head of Service (HOS), Hakeem Muri-Okunola, to defend the request, Nigerian Tribune reports.
The lawmaker added that Abiola Liadi, the permanent secretary in the state ministry of budget and economic planning, was also invited, amongst others.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the governor of Lagos state while advising his colleagues in the country to spend public money well, said he has not bought any car since he assumed office.
He said the vehicles he is using now were the same ones he had during his campaign.. In his statement, he noted that the chief executive of every state needs to look at how they can cut out wasteful spending as a way to increase their state’s wealth.
In another report, Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike explained why his administration consistently shares car gifts and other items to judicial officers, especially judges.
A statement released by Wike's media, Kelvin Ebiri, on Friday, January 29 revealed that the clarification followed a lawsuit filed against the Rivers state government by a Port Harcourt lawyer.
Wike in the statement said that the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice told him one lawyer in Port Harcourt went to court against the state government.
