The presidency has given its voice again in support of the call for what it describes as the lifestyle audit, a move expected to tackle corruption, especially among top Nigerian public officials.

A presidential media aide, Lauretta Onochie, on her Twitter page on Wednesday, March 24, said the audit will serve as a watchdog for Nigerians who flaunt riches they cannot account for.

Using the example of a civil servant who owns a house beyond his actual means, Onochie said with this medium, the rate of graft in the country will be curtailed.

She tweeted:

"One of the reasons people are poor is that some people take for themselves funds that are meant for everyone.
"With #LifestyleAudit, there'll be a reduction in stealing from the poor.
"For example, a civil servant who owns a house he can't ordinarily afford should be audited. Yes."

Meanwhile, the federal government would be going after Nigerians who flaunt lifestyles above their pay grade, the presidency has said.

This was disclosed by Onochie in a tweet on Monday, March 22, and sighted by Legit.ng.

According to the media aide, those who flaunt lifestyles they cannot afford will be asked to produce evidence to back up the sources of their wealth.

She went on to note that the affected citizens can now be investigated by graft agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
