Lionel Messi has broken several La Liga records since he made his Spanish League debut for Barcelona senior team in 2005.

The 36-year-old currently holds the record for the most goals in the league as well as the most assists created in the topflight.

He has equally recorded the most wins and also remains the player with the most goals scored against other teams.

In 2012, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner stunned the globe after scoring a staggering 91 goals in a calendar year - 79 with Barca (59 in La Liga, 13 in the Champions League, 5 in the Copa del Rey, and 2 in the Spanish Super Cup) plus 12 with the Argentina national side.

The feat helped the Argentine outshine the 85 goals previously held by German legend Gerd Muller after 12 months.

Meanwhile, if the 24 assists Messi created were included in the period under review, it would be safe to say the 33-year-old played a part in 115 goals in 2012 - a feat that is out of this world.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup finalist did not only has the most player of the month awards in Spain, but he also has the highest number of titles won by the Catalans.

He currently tops the Spanish League scorers chart with 23 goals and eight assists after 26 matches - the last time he played without scoring or assisting any goal was on December 16.

Messi is tied with Raul Garcia with 511 La Liga appearances, he will have to play 112 more before surpassing Andoni Zubizarreta's 622 games record in the Spanish League.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi continues to break records in the colours of Barcelona after maintaining a top-scoring form for the club in the last three months.

The Argentine superstar recently equalled Xavi's most appearance record for the Catalans with two superb goals and an assist in their 4-1 over Huesca at Camp Nou.

This means that the 33-year-old has now scored or created an assist in all the La Liga games he has played since he fired blanks in their 2-1 win over Real Sociedad last December.
