Days after defection to APC, former speaker Dimeji Bankole visits Buhari in Aso Rock

- President Muhammadu Buhari has received a former governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Daniel and Dimeji Bankole in Abuja

- The new members of the ruling APC visited the president on Monday, March 22

- Daniel and Bankole were introduced to the president following their defection to the APC

A former speaker of House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole and an ex-governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel visited President Muhammadu Buhari at Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Channels TV reports that Bankole and Daniel recently dumped their parties and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Legit.ng gathered that the duo were accompanied by the Governor of Yobe state who is also the chairman, Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the APC, the Jigawa, and Kebbi state governors who presented them as new members of the party to President Buhari on Monday, March 22.

Gbenga Daniel was governor of Ogun state from 2003 to 2011, while Dimeji Bankole was the speaker of the House of Representatives from 2007-2011 both on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Vanguard also reports that the former governor had during his defection earlier in February said his decision to join the party was well-thought-out and he called on fellow Nigerians to join hands with the federal government and rebuild the socio-economic fortunes of the country.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Adeola Sosanwo, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was reported that Sosanwo who was the PDP's senatorial candidate for Ogun East in 2019 said he decided to join the ruling APC so as to work with Governor Dapo Abiodun in moving Ogun state further on the path of progress.

In a related report, some leaders of the APC held talks with a former speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole.

The party disclosed that Bankole met on Friday, March 12, with APC chairman, Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Governor Mai Mala Buni in Abuja in the company of Jigawa Governor Abubakar Bagudu.

According to a spokesperson for the party, Mamman Mohammed, the APC leaders discussed the possibility of the former speaker joining the APC.

Similarly, Taiwo Adisa, the chief press secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state alleged that the APC is plotting to lure his principal to the party.

Adisa claimed the leaders of the ruling party were aware that they could not raise any candidate that can match Makinde and that is the reason they want to lure him by all means.
