Insecurity: Nigeria is in a Critical Situation, Buhari's Minister Cries out

- Nigeria's minister of defence, Major General Salihi Magashi (rtd) has shared his thoughts on the increased level of insecurity

- According to Magashi, the country is in a captious situation following terrorists’ activities, among others

The rise in terrorists’ activities, banditry, and abductions across the country has become a source of concern for a lot of Nigerians.

In light of this, Major General Salihi Magashi (rtd), the minister of defence, insinuated that Nigeria is in a critical situation.

The Nation reports that Magashi made the disclosure at a National Defence and Security Summit organised by the Defence Headquarters on Monday, March 22.

The defence minister is of the opinion that Nigeria's security challenges require the support and collaboration of both civilians and critical stakeholders in the nation.

He said:

"We are in a critical situation that requires the understanding, buy-in, support and collaboration of important stakeholders and key players in this strategic option and national task.
"This is important to minimize distractions and maximize civil support in order to facilitate operational success and mission outcomes.”

Earlier, Vanguard reported that the minister stated that it was the responsibility of every Nigerian to be alert amid the challenges with the nation's security.

Magashi speaking with journalists noted that bandits sometimes carry out attacks with a few rounds of ammunition to cause fear among citizens.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Nyesom Wike accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of playing politics with the issue of insecurity throughout Nigeria.

The Rivers governor claimed that this is why banditry and violence, especially in the north, has come to stay.

He went on to state that if the government had fought the menace then, things will not be as bad as they are now.

In a related development, Lucky Irabor, chief of defence staff, gave Nigerians the assurance that peace would soon be restored across the country.

The defence chief disclosed this after he was decorated by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, March 5.

He said the nation will soon be liberated from insecurity. Irabor who was promoted to a four-star general added that people cannot continue to live in fear in Nigeria.
