Herdsmen Attack: Nigerian Governor Storms Church for Thanksgiving, Speaks on Attempt on his Life

- The governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, is full of thanks to God after surviving an attack on Saturday, March 20

- Ortom went for thanksgiving after his convoy was attacked by some suspected herdsmen

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state on Sunday, March 21, visited the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG) Signs and Wonders Mega Parish in Makurdi to thank God for sparing his life, The Nation reports.

This is coming a day after Ortom's convoy was attacked by some armed criminals close to his farmland along the Makurdi-Gboko highway.

There was a heavy exchange of gunfire between the attackers and the governor’s security officials.

The governor who had to run about 1.5 kilometers to escape being hurt, was accompanied to the thanksgiving service by close family members, aides, and members of the EXCO.

While thanking God for saving him from attack by suspected herdsmen, the governor questioned why an ethnic group would be shielded and allowed to use its militia arm to wreak havoc.

Speaking further at the service Ortom called on Nigerians with good conscience to save the country from drifting into anarchy and lawlessness.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Ortom recounted the near-death attack from gunmen along the Makurdi/Gboko road in the Makurdi local government area of the state.

Ortom said the assailants who attacked the convoy close to his farmland were about 15 in number with the chief aim to kill him.

The governor went on to note that things could have been worse if not for the swift intervention of his security detail.
