Despite forming a great part of United's rebuilding, Romero has endured a frustrating spell with the Red Devils in recent months.

The move comes just weeks after the experienced goalkeeper was recalled to the club's Premier League squad by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, despite the development that gave the 34-year-old a gleamer of hope of featuring for United, he has not been able to make matchday squads.

SunSport now reports the out-of-favour shotstopper has been reunited with his family in the last few days as he explores what the future holds for him.

His wife Eliana Guercio revealed Romero's return to Argentina with a photo showing the keeper's ripped stomach muscles.

"Guess who arrived?" A clearly happy Eliana captioned the photo.

She would later share a follow-up footage with her Instagram followers showing Romero diving into the pool to save their drowning dog.

The Argentine's situation at Old Trafford comes at a time United are said to be eyeing a move for Premier League keepers Nick Pope and Brighton's Robert Sanchez to replace David de Gea.

Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez is also thought to be in the frame despite joining the side from Arsenal this season.

But speaking recently on Romero's future, Solskjaer admitted it is a little difficult for the former Racing Club star to feature due to competition in the goalkeeping department.

“Sergio is working hard in training. He’s in the group and of course he lost a lot of training earlier on in the season," Ole said.
“He’s working with the keepers but with Dean, Lee Grant and David it’s been more difficult to get in the match squad," he added.
