Tottenham were dumped out of the competition in stunning fashion by Dinamo Zagreb, who somehow managed to overturn a two-goal deficit.

Hart, who played no part in that match, was left with an egg on his face after posting an awkward “job done” post on his social media moments after the match was finished.

It was clear someone handling Joe Hart’s Instagram account was unaware of the fact that it was Spurs who actually bowed out of the competition.

On the morning of Friday, March 19, Hart took to his social media to attempt to make amends for the embarrassing mistake.

"I feel like I need to come on and make an apology on behalf of my social media team, I've literally just woke up,” he started.
"Someone thought that we'd won 3-0 last night. As sloppy as it sounds, it's the truth. They posted 'job done'. That's unacceptable. I'm sure that's annoyed a lot of people, and I'm sorry it's come to that but it's obviously not come from me," he concluded.

Aside from their Europa League humiliation, Spurs are also in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season after their league defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

Spurs blew their 2-0 first leg lead against Dinamo Zagreb to allow the Croatian side score three unreplied goals in the reverse fixture and dump them out of the tournament.

Mislav Orsic emerged match hero during the encounter, scoring a stunning hat-trick to help Zagreb book a place in the quarter-finals of the European competition on a 3-2 goal aggregate.

And with Tottenham currently occupying 8th position in the Premier League, their chances of reaching European competition next season now hang in the balance which has left club fans furious.
