Breaking: President Buhari makes crucial appointment in NSDC

- President Buhari has appointed a new executive secretary for the NSDC

- The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the director, information, in the office of the SGF, Willie Bassey, on Thursday, March 18

- Adedeji Zacch, the new appointee, was a commissioner for finance in Oyo state.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Adedeji Zacch as the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).

Vanguard reports that the director, information, in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Willie Bassey, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, March 18, in Abuja, said the appointment is with effect from March 10, 2021.

Legit.ng gathered that Bassey said the appointment is for an initial term of four years in accordance with the provisions of section 5 (1) of the National Sugar Development Council (Establishment Act, 1993).

The statement read:

“Mr. Adedeji Zacch holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management & Accounting and Masters Degree in Accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as well as an Executive Certificate in Economic Development from Harvard, Kennedy School of Government, Boston, U.S.A with 15 years experience as a chartered accountant.

Daily Nigerian reports that until the appointment, Zacch had served as corporate affairs manager (West Africa) at the Procter & Gamble Company, Lagos and commissioner for finance, Oyo state from 2011-2015.

The statement added:

“Mr. President enjoins the new appointee to serve the nation with all sense of responsibility, honesty, diligence and promote good governance in the discharge of his duties.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that President Buhari on Monday, March 15, reorganised the agencies under the ministry of aviation.

It was reported that the president announced the appointment of Professor Bako Mansur Matazu as new the director-general of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

Buhari also approved the appointment of Captain Modibbo Alkali Mahmud as the new rector of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, (NCAT) Zaria.

The president also approved the reappointment of Engr. Akin Olateru as the commissioner and chief executive officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria (AIB).

In a related report, President Buhari asked the Senate to confirm the nomination of Ahmad Shaba Halilu as the substantive director-general of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

Garba Shehu, a presidential aide, in a statement on Tuesday, March 9, disclosed that Buhari’s request was contained in a letter to the president of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.

He said the president was acting in line with Section 14 (1) (2) of the NASRDA Act 2010.
