Thiago Silva was super elated when Chelsea booked their spot in the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time since 2014.

The Brazilian watched from the stands as the Blues defeated Atletico Madrid 2-0 at Stamford Bridge and progress on 3-0 aggregate after both legs.

A goal each from Hakim Ziyech and Emerson in the 34th and 94th minutes ensured the Premier League outfit remain unbeaten in all competitions since Thomas Tuchel arrived.

He was met half-way the stairs by teammates Mason Mount and Jorginho and hugged excitedly in response to the feat they just achieved.

SunSport reports that the 36-year-old veteran defender was lively all through the game - kicking every ball as Chelsea battled their way to victory.

With their current form, The Brazilian will hope he can lift the silverware when the final is played in May having finished as a runner-up under Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain last season.

And when the draws are concluded on Friday, some European counterparts might want to avoid the Blues at the next stage of the tourney after going 13 games unbeaten under the German boss.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have reached the final of the European Cup twice after managerial changes during the course of a season - under Avram Grant in 2008 and Roberto Di Matteo in 2012.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea reached the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time since 2014 in style after beating Atletico Madrid 3-0 on aggregate after both legs of their fixtures.

Having claimed a 1-0 triumph in the reverse fixture last month, the Blues maintained their dominance over the Spanish League outfit with a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Hakim Ziyech and Emerson's efforts ensured the London club extended their unbeaten run to 13 games since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel in late January.
