Lionel Messi continues to break records in the colours of Barcelona after maintaining a top-scoring form for the club in the last three months.

The Argentine superstar recently equalled Xavi's most appearance record for the Catalans with two superb goals and an assist in their 4-1 over Huesca at Camp Nou.

This means that the 33-year-old has now scored or created an assist in all the La Liga games he has played since he fired blanks in their 2-1 win over Real Sociedad last December.

Jordi Alba and Frenkie de Jong were the goal scorers as Ronald Koeman's men narrowly edged their visitors out after the regulation period.

However, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner has gone ahead to score 16 goals and seven assists in 13 Spanish League games - an incredible form that has revived the Catalans' title chase.

This also means that the four-time Champions League winner has not fired blanks in the last three months for Barca - such a reliable form any team would require to succeed.

Messi has scored a total of 27 goals and 12 assists in all competitions so far this campaign - though, his ingenuity couldn't help them avoid crashing out of the UCL at the last-16 stage.

He could however inspire the Blaugrana to the league title as they currently sit second on the table with 59 points - four away from table toppers Atletico Madrid with 11 more games to the end of the season.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Legendary Lionel Messi has continued to defy the odds despite the age of 33 as he grabbed yet another brace in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Huesca in the La Liga.

The Barcelona captain is now the first player in history to score 20 goals or more for 13 La Liga seasons running.

He scored in both halves of the encounter helping his side to secure all three points and move within four points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.
