Governor Aminu Tambuwal has reacted to reports of an alleged kidnap attempt at the Sani Dingyadi Secondary School in Sokoto state.

Tambuwal said the incident was only a case of a motorcycle thief who ran into the school to hide while being chased by residents, Punch reports

The governor explained that the students were terrified and started calling their parents upon seeing many persons rushing into the school's premises.

“The incident involved a motorbike thief who ran into the school when he was chased by some people.

“In the ensuing melee, there was an unexpected entrance of the pursuers into the school premises, which scared the students, some of who called their parents thinking it was a case of kidnapping.”

Calming the school children, Tambuwal who went to the school on Tuesday, March 16, assured them that his government will do its utmost to ensure their protection.

Meanwhile, an unspecified number of teachers and students of the National Institute of Construction Technology, Uromi, Edo state, had been reportedly kidnapped by gunmen.

The gunmen stormed the institute on Wednesday night, March 10, and abducted the victims. The development is said to have heightened tension among residents in the area, as parents of the kidnapped victims have reportedly stormed the school premises.

The newly appointed spokesman of the Edo state police command, SP. Bello Kontongs also confirmed the incident.

No contact had been made yet to the family of the victims. A State House correspondent had on Thursday, March 11 called the attention of the National Security Adviser, NSA, Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd) on the kidnapping incident.
