A report by VON indicates that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has paraded two of its staff for extorting potential Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates.

The affected staff, Andy Okoro, an officer in JAMB’s Delta state office had collected the sum of N500,000 from four candidates’ parents with the promise to help them secure university admission.

According to Okoro, he paid his colleague Gambo Ibrahim Abba, a level 8 officer at JAMB headquarters N180,000 to help facilitate their admission.

The level 12 officer speaking to journalists said he engaged in the fraudulent activity due to economic hardship.

The scam was later exposed when one of the parents petitioned JAMB on Okoro’s activities.

Drama later ensued when Gambo, who had claimed he was into fish business with Okoro, admitted that his involvement in the extortion might not be ordinary.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB registrar in reaction to the incident expressed surprise that the affected staff defied the board’s zero tolerance for corruption,

While vowing to ensure the suspects face the full wrath of the law, Oloyede called on parents and candidates not to allow anyone to collect money from them in the guise of helping them to secure admission to their chosen institution.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that JAMB said it has concluded all arrangements to begin the sale of 2021/2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration forms.
