President Buhari reacts to Kaduna abduction, commends military for prompt action

- President Buhari has condemned attacks by armed bandits on Nigerian schools

- The president asked security agencies to secure schools in the country

- Several students have been abducted from schools in northern parts of Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the military for rescuing 180 students from bandits in Kaduna state.

According to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, a presidential aide on Monday, March 13, Buhari urged the military to rescue the other students that were declared missing.

He said:

“Our military may be efficient and well-armed but it needs good efforts for the nation’s defense and the local population must rise to this challenge of the moment.”

The president said the country will not allow would-be terrorists and bandits targeting schools to destroy the school system.

President Buhari expressed sympathy with the victims of this incident and hoped for an early end to the ordeal of those still held captive.

In another report, some suspected gunmen in the morning of Sunday, March 14, made a second attempt to abduct people at the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) quarters in Kaduna state.

Daily Trust reported that 12 people were abducted when bandits breached the security of the quarters, which is located before the Kaduna airport recently.

Among those abducted on Saturday, March 6, were an official of the Nigerian Air Space Management Agency (NAMA) and his family as well as the wife and kids of a staff member of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET).

Meanwhile, men of the Nigerian police have made the country proud by shooting to death two suspected criminals.

This comes as the police operatives gunned down two kidnappers in Anguwar Hausawa, Naharati community in Abaji Area Council, Abuja.

They were killed during an exchange of gunfire with the police and members of the vigilante group guarding the area, Daily Trust reported.

Still on security, Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central district, has shared an update concerning the abduction of students from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Kaduna state.

The outspoken social commentator on Saturday, March 13, maintained that at the moment none of the children kidnapped has either been released or freed.

While urging Nigerians to keep the students in their prayers, the human rights activist called on other schools to take precautions.
