Confusion as Nigerian governor says joint security network for southeast not realistic

David Umahi, the Ebonyi state governor and chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, has said there is no possibility for the region to have a joint security network.
The Punch reports that the governors in the region are comfortable with the different security architectures at various states because the personnel are working very well.
Legit.ng gathered that he said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programmed on Thursday, March 11.

He said:
“What we have in southeast states in a joint security committee which trains Neighbourhood Watch and the Vigilante groups or other local security architectures at different states in the region."
He said if anybody says that there could be security personnel contributed from different states to form joint security for this region, it is not a possibility, adding that it is not workable even if the constitution permits it.
Umahi noted
“Every state is peculiar and so, is their security challenges. The problem is that those complaining about the lack of joint security for the southeast are not living in the region. They don’t have the knowledge of how security works in the region.
“The governors of the southeast states are comfortable with the different security architectures at various states because the personnel are working very well. There is a problem of insecurity in the region, but the issue is not peculiar to the region alone, it is a national problem."
Umahi explained that having a joint security network will have challenges in terms of deployment of personnel from one state to another which they may not be familiar with.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Amotekun operatives in Ondo state blamed illegal miners for the killing of a farmer and a vigilante operative at the Jugbere Farm Settlement in the Owo area of the state.
It was reported that the security network stated that herdsmen were not responsible for the killings.
The director-general of the Amotekun corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said four suspects connected to the attack have been arrested.
