2023 presidency: APC's likely candidate emerges, secures massive support from Igbos

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, March 10, got the support of Igbos in Lagos to run for the 2023 presidential election.

During a visit to a former chairman of Amuwo Odofin local government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, on Wednesday, delegates of the Igbo-speaking community in the state expressed their readiness to give Tinubu the needed backing to get the APC's ticket and become Nigeria's president, The Nation reports.

The delegates referred to Tinubu as a detribalised leader who has the innate potential to foster unity in the country.

According to Chief Sunday Udeh, the leader of the delegation, southeasterners in Lagos are fully behind the former governor and will make sure his presidential ambition comes to fruition.

On his part, Adewale expressed joy and gratitude to the Igbos for throwing their weight behind Tinubu, adding that the APC leader appointed many persons from the region while he was a governor.

He noted:

“Asiwaju also appointed Igbo’s into his cabinet as governor of Lagos State. I thank you for adding your voice to the call that Asiwaju should contest as president of Nigeria in 2023.
"Asiwaju will make a good President as he will consolidate on the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Meanwhile, a former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, had said that President Muhammadu Buhari would never support Tinubu in his presidential ambition.

The former governor said this during the inauguration of the Jigawa state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reconciliation committee in Dutse on Wednesday, January 20.

Though Tinubu has not officially declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2023, there are strong speculations that the former Lagos governor wants to succeed President Buhari.
