List of 16 states that have received 1.8m doses of COVID-19 vaccine

Nigeria has started the process of nationwide vaccination against COVID-19 as 16 out of the 36 states of the federation have taken delivery of their shares of the vaccine from the federal government.

According to the Leadership newspaper, the 16 states received a total of 1,871,050 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

Below is a list of the states that have collected the vaccine and their shares:

1. Benue state - 78,108,

2. Borno state - 75,510

3. Ekiti state - 52,000

4. Jigawa state - 68,000

5. Nasarawa state - 61,000

6. Niger state - 74,110

7. Ondo state - 73, 570

8. Cross River state - 50,840

9. Osun state - 64,240

10. Ebonyi state - 42,090

11. Plateau state - 105,600

12. Ogun state - 100,000

Meanwhile, the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, has said he won’t receive the COVID-19 vaccine because he does not need it.

He argued that he does not have any medical condition that requires him to take the vaccine.

The governor stated:

“As far as I am concerned, I as a person, I don’t need to take vaccines. There is nothing wrong with me, I am hale and hearty. I am 100 per cent healthy…I won’t take any vaccine.”

Reacting to Governor Bello's statement, the minister of state for health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, said the federal government won’t force any state to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

The minister said:

“We have to weigh all that is involved. We are not going to compel anyone to take the vaccines. We are also conscious of the fact that even as of now, we don’t have enough vaccines."

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have taken the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The president and his deputy were vaccinated on Saturday, March 6, by their personal physicians.

Some of the governors who have also taken the vaccine include Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state.
