Rohr reportedly picks clubless player for Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has hinted that club-less captain Ahmed Musa will be invited for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.

A 23-man squad is expected to be released anytime soon and Musa who has been out of club for several months will be named in the list.

Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr confirmed the departure of Musa from their club last October after spending two years in the Middle East.

Al Nassr who are eight-time Saudi Arabian Professional Football League champions took to their official social media page to wish Ahmed Musa good luck in his career.

After leaving Premier League side Leicester City due to lack of active playing time, Ahmed Musa joined Al Nassr on a free transfer and his move was celebrated by the club's fans.

He made 58 appearances and scored 11 goals for the club and was part of the Nigerian team that played Sierra Leone last November.

Musa is still in search of a club and now coach Gernot Rohr says the former CSKA Moscow star will get a call up for Lesotho and Benin games. Rohr told NationSport.

“The list is done, NFF will release the list soon.

“We have a list of 23 plus captain Musa, six players on standby.”

Rohr has over time insisted that players who are not active in their clubs will not be considered for the national team.

The 27-year-old winger shared a picture of them posing for the camera on social media accompanied by a thankful emoji.

Although no one knows the reason for the meeting, however, the comment section was filled with love from the fans of his former club Al Nassr.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that former Nigerian international Daniel Amokachi has thrown his weight of support for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) saying Nigeria would have won AFCON 2000 if the technology was in place at that time.

Recall that controversy ensued during the penalty shootout of the final match at the national stadium in Surulere, Lagos Nigeria after Victor Ikpeba’s penalty was ruled out.
