A 17-year-old footballer with English club AFC Flyde Luke Bennett reportedly died after being el**trocuted by a live power cable.

Daily Star are reporting that Bennett passed away following an accident on Saturday night, March 6, which saw him hold on to an overhead power cable with a metal pole.

It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred when he was attempting to retrieve a ball at Euxton Villa FC’s ground in Runshaw Hall Lane, Chorley.

Emergency services were swiftly called to the scene after it was reported that a child had been seriously injured, but police officers attached to Lancashire confirmed that Bennett was dead at the scene.

AFC Fylde said in a statement:

“It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we must share the tragic news that AFC Fylde youth player Luke Bennett has passed away at the age of 17.
“Learning the news on Saturday evening has left us absolutely devastated and heartbroken. All our love goes out to Luke’s family and friends at this cruel and difficult time."

This is coming barely three days that Manchester United family was thrown into mourning following the death of legendary former striker Phil Chisnall at the age of 78.

The late striker who spent five years at Old Trafford was the last player to leave the Red Devils and join Liverpool in 1964 in around £25,000.

He went ahead to score 10 goals in 47 appearances across competitions during his reign at the English club.
