It was a euphoric show of drama and excitement in Andoni local government area of Rivers state on Friday, March 5, when a fisherman killed a "mysterious" fish.

The incident, which occurred in a place called Oyorokotor, shot the community into the limelight as the video and pictures of the big catch have now gone viral, with Nigerians on social media wondering if it truly happened.

Zion Godwin, a Facebook user, posted pictures of the mammoth creature said to be swordfish on his timeline, saying the fish was dead inside the river before the fisherman pulled it out.

Speaking with Legit.ng after being contacted, Godwin explained that residents living close to the river woke up seeing the fisherman struggling to pull out his catch.

The size of the fish was discovered after it was pulled out by the fisherman with the help of those who saw him when he was dragging it out.

"The place is called Oyorokotor in Andoni in Rivers State. The fisherman went fishing in the night to fish throughout the night till morning. Coming back we saw that he could not put some of his net inside the boat. When he landed at the seashore we saw the swordfish inside the net by the side of the boat.

"The fish was dead at the time the man brought it. After the man loosened the nets and fish fell on the grand, people joined him to carry the fish to the place where I took the pictures," he recounted.
