Tension in Ekiti as "Bororo herdsmen" kill 2 farmers on their farms; Fayemi pays visit in emotional photos

In the spirit of responsive leadership, Governor Kayode John Fayemi of Ekiti state has paid a condolence visit to the families of two farmers killed in their farms by suspected herders in Isaba Ekiti.

The farmers, Toyin Akeju, popularly known as Jisoro, and Yusuf Onuche, were found dead on Saturday, March 6, on the farms with wounds from gunshots reportedly to have been fired by some criminal Bororo herdsmen terrorising the state.

The tragic development which came amid mounting ethnic tension over the atrocities of Fulani herdsmen has degenerated into crisis in the affected community.

In a series of tweet on Sunday, March 7, Governor Fayemi said he visited the families of the slain farmers to commiserate with them over the loss of their beloved and douse the brewing ethnic tension in the community.

"Yesterday, two of our farmers from Isaba Ekiti, Mr Toyin Akeju known locally as Jisoro and Mr Yusuf Onuche were found dead on the farms with wounds from gun shots suspected to have been fired by Bororo herdsmen. This, understandably, generated a lot of anger in the community.
"This morning I visited the families of the deceased in the community. In offering commiserations of the government and all our people, I reassured them that we will get to the bottom of this sad occurrence and bring all the criminals involved to book."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that in a solidified effort to tackle and finally curb the ceaseless farmer-herder crisis in Ogun state, Governor Dapo Abiodun-led government on Monday, February 15, facilitated a town hall meeting with necessary stakeholders.

The meeting, which was attended by top government officials and representatives of the security agencies, was a confidence-building mission channelled towards lasting peace.

Represented by his commissioner of local government and chieftaincy affairs, Afolabi Afuape, Governor Abiodun urged all the aggrieved parties to bury their hatchets and embrace peace.
