President Muhammadu Buhari has urged all eligible Nigerians to take the COVID-19 vaccine in order to protect themselves from contracting the virus.
The president gave the advice on Saturday, March 6, shortly after he received the first dose of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, a presidential aide, Garba Shehu disclosed in a statement.

He said:
‘‘I have received my first jab and I wish to commend it to all eligible Nigerians, to do same so that we can be protected from the virus.
‘The vaccine offers hope for a safe country, free of Coronavirus. I similarly urge all eligible Nigerians to present themselves and be vaccinated in accordance with the order of priority already mapped out, at the various authorized designated centres only.''

Buhari asked all state governments, traditional and religious leaders to mobilise people in their jurisdictions to get vaccinated.
He commended the private sector and critical stakeholders who have supported Nigeria’s response to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, has said he won’t receive the COVID-19 vaccine because he does not need it.
The Punch reported that the governor made the statement when he spoke on Channels Television's Politics Today’ programme.
He argued that he does not have any medical condition that requires him to take the vaccine.
In another news, the report that the coronavirus vaccine has been allocated to some rich people has been denied by the federal government.
This was disclosed by Faisal Shuaib, executive director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), in an interview with Channels TV.
According to him, about 2.3 million Nigerians have registered to take the vaccines in less than 24 hours after the portal was opened.
Nigeria recently received millions of COVID-19 vaccines via COVAX.
