Anxiety as Juventus are reportedly confused over extending legendary Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract

As reports say Cristiano Ronaldo could be seeking a new challenge, Juventus are reportedly weighing up their options if they should extend his massive €31 million yearly contract.

The 36-year-old has continued to score important goals for the club who have been hit financially by the impact of the coronavirus.

It was gathered that Ronaldo is interested in renewing his contract for a further year, but the Old Lady are yet to decide.

It is understood that Juventus are yet to respond to the advances from Ronaldo's side because they are still assessing whether or not they can continue to afford to pay his whopping wages.

For now, though, it seems they are not interested in selling their superstar at the end of this season, which could be their last chance to cash in on the ageing forward, whose current contract is set to expire in June 2022.

It was also gathered that, if push comes to shove, Matthijs de Ligt might be the player the Serie A giants look to offload because he is the highest-value member of the current squad.

And Ronaldo has scored just one direct free-kick since his £98 million transfer from Real Madrid to Juventus in 2018.

The five-time Champions League winner has played a total of 65 free-kicks since he joined the Turin-based outfit but has only a 1.5 per cent success rate.

Stats show that the 36-year-old's only goal from the set-piece came during the Old Lady's 3-1 triumph over Torino in July 2020.

His chances of winning his third straight Scudetto this campaign are slim as Juve trail Inter Milan by seven points after 24 games so far.

The stats further reveal that Juve had more success from free-kicks before the arrival of the five-time Champions League winner three years ago.
