Tension as 2 missing herdsmen found dead in Kaduna village

- Two herdsmen who were earlier declared missing in Kaduna village have been found dead

- Their cattle were also found wandering about, with some having gunshot wounds

- The Kaduna state governor, El-Rufai, has reacted to the incident and charged security agencies to investigate the deaths

Two missing herdsmen have been found dead in Mabuhu-Wawan Rafi, Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna state.

Daily Nigerian reported that the bodies of the dead herders were recovered by the troops of Operation Safe Haven.

According to the newspaper, the development was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday, March 3, by the state's commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan.

Legit.ng gathers that the dead herders were identified as Yusuf Ahmadu and Mustapha Bako.

According to the commissioner, the herders had gone out to graze their cattle and then failed to return to their settlement.

Their cattle were eventually found wandering about the area with some bearing gunshot wounds. The herders’ corpses were found shortly after.

In his reaction, Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed sadness over the ugly incident and sent condolences to the families of the herdsmen.

He tasked security agencies to ensure thorough investigations into their deaths.

Meanwhile, following the alarming rise in security threats and other socioeconomic problems, governors of the 19 states in the north held a meeting with traditional rulers and a delegation from the federal government.

The governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, confirmed the meeting on Thursday, February 25, via a tweet he shared on his official Twitter account.

The agenda of the meeting held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna state was focused on security challenges bedevilling the region and youth unemployment.

In a related development, the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) on Tuesday, February 23, declared that the ultimate agenda of bandits is to destroy the country.

The chairman of the NGF and governor of Ekiti state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, made the statement during some governors solidarity visit to Niger governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, in Minna over the recent abductions in the state.

A statement by the Niger state government seen by Legit.ng, quoted Dr. Fayemi as saying there was no other term to describe acts of banditry and kidnapping other than terrorism.
