Insecurity: 7 kidnapped victims regain freedom as vigilantes engage bandits, kill 1

- Some kidnap victims in Ogun state have been rescued by a group of vigilante

- The rescue operation was carried out in Akunu, Akoko northeast LGA of Ondo state

Members of a vigilante group, hunters, and some youths have rescued seven people who were kidnapped by armed bandits in Akunu, Akoko northeast local government area of Ondo state.

In a report by The Punch, Princess Tolani Orogun, the regent of Akunu, made this known on Sunday, February 28.

The vigilantes rescued the kidnapped victims who were said to be travelling to Abuja when they were abducted on Friday, February 26, on Akunu Akoko-Kabba expressway.

The victims were allegedly taken into the bush by their abductors when the hunters and youths of the community stormed the scene which is a familiar terrain to them.

According to Orogun, the timely efforts of the vigilantes saved the victims as one of the kidnappers was killed during a gunfight while the others fled.

ACP Razak Rauf, the police area commander for Ikare Akoko, confirmed the development, saying an investigation has been launched commenced into the case.

103 kidnapped victims rescued in Katsina

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that security forces rescued 103 kidnapped victims in Katsina. The governor of the state, Aminu Masari, revealed this on Friday, January 8, as he spoke with rescued victims at Government House.

Masari noted that this development is a continuation of the exercise that started with the recovery of the 344 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.

53 abducted passengers released

In a related development, all the 53 passengers abducted in Niger state met with Governor Abubakar Sani Bello at the Government House in Minna, the Niger state capital.
