Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is unarguably one of the best managers in the world today due to the impact he made before retiring in 2013.

The 79-year-old won a total of 50 recognised trophies during his 39-year reign in charge of four clubs including Aberdeen and the Red Devils.

However, his greatness is being compared with that of the current Manchester City handler Pep Guardiola who has only been in football management with 29 trophies to his credit.

The Spaniard is presently on a 19-game unbeaten run with his team this campaign while they are topping the Premier League log with 59 points - 10 points better than city rivals United.

Should Pep win the EPL at the end of this season, the former Barcelona handler would have won the title for the third time in the last four seasons.

Guardiola has equally won three La Liga titles and three Bundesliga crowns with Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively. He also has two UCL silverware on his trophy cabinets - with both final wins coming against Ferguson's Manchester United in 2009 and 2011.

Ferguson spent 26 years at Old Trafford and he blew their trumpet for the world, however, fans online are arguing Guardiola is on his way to overtaking that record.

The red half of Manchester aren't taking the criticism lying down, however, quickly coming to Ferguson's defence after a legendary career.

One fan said:

"There's a reason Pep Guardiola chose Manchester City over Manchester United and if you don't know what that reason is then you're incredibly naïve. Sir Alex Ferguson built and rebuilt an empire year after year. Guardiola is a brilliant manager but no-one can touch Sir Alex."

Another added as reported by Sport Bible:

"Sir Alex Ferguson would not have let Liverpool win the Premier League title last season and that is a fact but Pep did. End of discussion."

While a third simply stated:

"Come back onto Twitter and the first thing I see is someone say that Sir Alex Ferguson was an overrated manager. Time to log back out again."

Meanwhile, the Manchester derby has been scheduled for March 7 and the outcome of the game might have an effect on the Red Devils standing on the log.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester City head into the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 game with a two-goal advantage over German side Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday, February 24.

A goal each from Bernando Silva and Gabriel Jesus were all Pep Guardiola's men needed to beat their hosts on home turf.

The victory stretched the Citizens' win across competitions to 19 - a record being held by the Spaniard and his Etihad Stadium club.
