Former Benfica star Nuno Gomes has stated that Arsenal defender David Luiz must return to the Portuguese club to end his career there.

It has been rumored that the one-time Chelsea defender and currently a key player on the Gunners squad Luiz will be returning to Portuguese outfit Benfica where he made remarkable contributions to the team under Nuno Gomes.

At the age of 33, the defender has made a name for himself already as his journey with Benfica began in 2007 where he played for four seasons before joining the English side Chelsea in 2011 for a contract of about £21.5million.

He was vital in the game between his present team Arsenal and his old club during the Europa league tie on Thursday night.

David Luiz has indicated interest in returning to his former club in the process of rounding up his career on the pitch.

Nuno Gomes told GOAL:

“He struggled a little bit to leave because he was doing very well and was very well settled here. But the offer that he received he couldn't refuse.
“But he always said that one day he wanted to return. I don't know if it will be possible or not, but I would love it to happen.”
