Barcelona legend Lionel Messi was in incredible form on Wednesday night, February 24, for his Spanish side netting brace for the Catalans in their game game against Elche at Camp Nou.

With the brace, Messi has now scored 13 goals in all competitions in 2021 and the Argentine is now topping the chart in Europe's top five Leagues.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is the one occupying second position on the table as he is currently having 12 goals this year.

Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland is occupying third position on the table with 10 goals in his account so far this 2021.

Barcelona went into the encounter against Elche with the target of redeeming themselves after suffering an embarrassing defeat in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

Lionel Messi and his teammates failed to save themselves from the defeat as France international Kylian Mbappe shined as he netted thrice at Camp Nou.

The Argentine scored the first goal for Barcelona in the 48th minute after getting a superb assist from Martin Braithwaite.

Frenkie de Jong provided the assist for Lionel Messi to score his second goal in the 68th minute before left-back Jordi Alba netted the third goal for the Catalans.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are occupying third position on the Spanish La Liga table with 50 points after 24 games played so far.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano explained that nothing has changed about Lionel Messi's game despite his uncertain future at the Spanish club.

This comes days after Barcelona suffered a defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in which Kylian Mbappe scored three goals as Messi failed to save his side from loss.

Before the start of the ongoing Spanish La Liga term, Lionel Messi wanted to leave Barcelona because of how the Catalans failed to win any title last season.

But no side was able to meet Barcelona's asking price which forced the Argentine to stay as his current deal at the Nou Camp will be expiring in the summer.
