Fire guts popular timber market in Rivers, traders count losses

A popular timber market in the Marine Base axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers state has been gutted by fire on Thursday, February 25.
Legit.ng gathers that the fire began at midnight from the casket section of the market. The fire was seen in the wood section with many shops already destroyed.
This publication also gathers that no firefighters have been seen. Machines, industrial woods and finished products are completely being consumed by the fire.

Traders are currently counting their loss following the tragic incident as individual efforts are being channelled to curb the further spread of the inferno.
Speaking with The Punch, one of the victims said he was informed about the fire outbreak at midnight, lamenting that everything he has in the market has been destroyed by the inferno.
“I was at home around 11:30pm to 12midnight when I was called that there was fire at market. “I don’t know where to start from,” he said.
NIS headquarters hit by fire
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Road, Abuja was on Sunday, January 10, gutted by fire.
Confirming the development, the NIS in a tweet shared on its official Twitter account said the fire has been put out by the Federal Fire Station with support from other agencies around the airport.
According to the post, the incident occurred Sunday morning and affected some offices. The NIS went on to note that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that Amu timbre market in the Olorunshogo area of Mushin, Lagos state was gutted by fire about a year ago.
Many goods and properties were destroyed in the fire that reportedly started in the early hours of Saturday, January 25, 2020.
The cause of the fire was unknown. Also, no casualty had been reported at the time of filing the report. According to several Twitter users who shared photos and videos, the market was burning for several hours.
