Chelsea made a big statement in their round of 16 Champions League win over La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid in Bucharest, Give Me Sport.

And one of the stars of the show was young England midfielder Mason Mount who made a five-star performance against Diego Simeone's side.

Fans believe that the former Derby County star was given enough time to mature as a player by former Blues boss Frank Lampard.

However, with the 22-year-old's performances so far under new boss Thomas Tuchel, he has proven to become a dependable player at the highest level of the game.

And the game against Atletico, Mount's stats was incredible and he showed some flashes of brilliance like Lionel Messi when he handled the ball.

Chelsea were on the counter-attack in the second half as Mount was closed in by two Rojiblancos players, but the Englishman somehow found his way out of both players.

Mount dribbled and skipped past both players before giving a through ball to Timo Werner who tried to locate Olivier Giroud in the box.

That move was a carbon copy of how Barcelona star Messi makes a meal of opponents when he is on the run and this has got fans talking on social media.

Giroud grabbed the only goal of the match with a spectacular over-head kick and it was Mount who first celebrated before the referee had to look at the VAR.

The Spanish side failed to register a decent shot on target as they are on the verge of crashing out in the competition.

Tuchel's men hold a one-goal lead going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge in the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Olivier Giroud's lone goal proved vital on Tuesday night, February 23, as a clinical Chelsea side edged Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie played at National Arena in Bucharest, Romania.

The match was Thomas Tuchel's biggest European test since his arrival as Blues boss back in January when he replaced Frank Lampard who was sacked.

Ahead of the Romania trip, Tuchel had led the west Londoners in seven unbeaten matches across competitions.
