Former Atletico Madrid defender Felipe Luis still doesn't understand why Jose Mourinho sold Mohamed Salah in spite of his incredible skills in training.

The Egyptian forward joined Chelsea from Basel in 2014 but only made 19 appearances, scoring two goals and four assists during his two-year reign at Stamford Bridge.

Before he was eventually offloaded in 2016, the 28-year-old had already been sent to Fiorentina and Roma on loan and by the end of the 2015-16 season, Roma signed him permanently.

His fame has since then risen having helped Liverpool win the Champions League and Premier League in the last three seasons - a feat that has eluded them in years.

Salah moved to Anfield in 2017 and since then he has scored 118 goals and 45 assists in 187 across competitions for the Reds.

The 35-year-old Brazilian has also rubbished claims that Salah struggled during his time at the London club compared to the player he has become today, adding that it was obvious the winger was a superstar in the making and was astonished when he was sold.

Felipe Luis told The Guardian and was reported by UK Metro.

"[Mourinho] didn’t get the best out of me, just as he didn’t with Salah."

Asked if anyone could have seen Salah exploding the way he has at Liverpool, Filipe Luis continued:

"I suffered Salah in training, pfff. When he went Fiorentina, I asked 'Why are you going, Momo? This is Chelsea.'
"And he said 'I need to play.'"

Luis Felipe continued:

“This kid’s good. He never went for money or to win more; he went to show he could play. In training, he was like Messi. Really, like Messi. Ask anyone."

The former Atletico man also had a rough relationship with the Portuguese manager and was sold after just one season but respected the Portuguese coach, saying:

"Mourinho’s tremendously competitive, which is what makes him great. The team fit together without me.
"And he didn’t abandon me: he always sent Rui Faria to talk to me and I never went 10 games without playing. It might look like we fell out but I admire him. I won the league with him."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Jose Mourinho still believes he is the best coach in the world despite losing to David Moyes' West Ham over the weekend.

Lucas Mouras' second-half header was not enough to cancel out Michael Antonio and Jesse Lingard's goals as the Hammers grabbed all three points.

However, Spurs created several chances through Harry Kane and Gareth Bale but it did not affect the outcome of the result.
