Panic as fire guts bus of another top Nigerian football club along Onitsha-Asaba expressway

There were no casualties as the team bus of Nigerian professional football team Kwara United gut fire along the Onitsha-Asaba expressway on Monday morning, February 22.

The incident occurred as the crew were returning to their base in Ilorin after prosecuting their Match Day 11 in Enugu where they lost 1-0 to Rangers on Sunday, February 21.

Players and coaching staff reportedly scrambled out of the vehicle after they discovered fired coming out from underneath the bus.

In a swift, the flame was quenched with a fire extinguisher as all players move away from the scene to a safe place.

And this is coming barely four days that another NPFL side Wikki Tourists confirmed that they had an accident.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning, February 18, on their way to Uyo for their fixture against Akwa United.

The Coaster Bus carrying players of the Bauchi based club suffered electric problems along Kibo Road and it burnt to ashes with no life lost in the heartbreaking incident.

According to the report gathered, players of Wikki Tourists were fast enough to make their way out of the bus when the fire started from the engine.

However, their belongings suffered damage as no one could salvage them from the raging inferno.

One of the officials of the club named Ibrahim who spoke with Legit.ng claimed that they are currently trying to get another bus that will take the players from the venue of the incident.

''We are thanking God that no body died in this incident except for the some luggage that were also burnt, but all the same, we are grateful to God once again that we lost no one.
''We have communicated this to all our bosses and also the LMC people and we are waiting for the new directive for us to take.''

Kwara United are currently on top of the NPFL standings having garnered 21 points from 11 matches. Enyimba are second with the same number of points, with two matches to spare.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that players and officials of Nigerian Professional Football League side Adamawa United were on Friday night, February 19, attacked and robbed by gunmen while on their way travelling to Lagos.

The heartbreaking incident happened along Benin-Ore expressway at around 11.30pm in which the players lost all their phones, feeding monies and other important properties to the gunmen.
