Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was stretchered-off the pitch in the closing stages of Napoli’s 4-2 loss to Italian rivals Atalanta on Sunday evening, February 21.

The Nigerian youngster was immediately rushed to the hospital following the incident after he collided with centre-back Cristian Romero during the encounter.

Osimhen who joined Napoli during the summer has seen his debut season with the Italian giants marred by suspension, coronavirus-related problems and injuries.

He was out of action for almost two months having suffered a shoulder injury while on international duty for Nigeria in November.

The 22-year-old impressive striker who was handed his seventh start of the season against Atalanta, struggled to make an impact for the entire duration he lasted on the pitch as he managed just one shot and two dribbles.

With few minutes left before the end of the game, Osimhen collided with Romero and was immediately taken out on a stretcher.

The club said in a statement via GOAL:

“Victor Osimhen, following the injury with head trauma suffered in the final minutes of Atalanta-Napoli, underwent tests with negative results.
“The player will remain in Bergamo until tomorrow under the clinical observation of the blue health manager Raffaele Canonico.”

Osimhen has only played 16 games across all competitions for Napoli, scoring two goals and providing one assist since his €80 million move from Lille last summer.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Victor Osimhen has disregarded comments made by his brother Andrew about his current form with Serie A side Napoli.

The Nigerian international has managed to score just two goals following his big summer money move from French Ligue 1 side Lille last summer.

His brother Andrew had suggested that Italian gaffer Genarro Gattuso is not playing to the strength of the former Wolfsburg forward.
