2023: APC chieftain discloses why Governor Fayemi may emerge as party’s presidential candidate

- APC chieftain, Olusoga David, said Governor Fayemi is qualified to contest for the 2023 presidential election

- The Ekiti state official disclose why Fayemi has the backing of members of the APC

- David expressed the confidence that the Ekiti governor will make a good president if elected to the position

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olusoga David, has said Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has all the qualities to be Nigeria’s president.

David who serves as Fayemi’s special adviser on political matters told The Tribune in an interview that APC stakeholders in Ekiti are rooting for the governor to become president.

He said:

He has the competence, patriotic character, courage and the right connections. These are the main qualities that stand him out as a national leader and would-be ‘first citizen of Nigeria. He is a very cerebral leader with a track record and a destiny, the hope of the youth in Nigeria.''

David stated that Fayemi has endeared himself to stakeholders from across the country through his intervention in the Osun State governorship election, his chairmanship of the presidential primary that produced President Buhari, and his developmental projects in Ekiti state.

The politician said:

‘’You see he has turned every village in Ekiti into construction sites. He has renovated schools and provided superior infrastructures in all towns and villages of Ekiti State.

He has done a lot for Ekiti people and they want him to replicate such at the Federal level by asking him to proceed to the zenith of his political career so as to be able to do more for his people and the generality of Nigerians.’’

However, Fayemi has not openly declared his intentions to contest in the 2023 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former governor of Osun state, has stated that the opposition party would defeat the ruling APC).

The Guardian reported that he said unity is the key weapon the PDP can deploy to take over the presidency from the ruling APC in the 2023 election.

Oyinlola said the PDP must be united to take over power following poor governance and failure of the APC to deliver on its promises.
