They operate like Boko Haram - Sultan of Sokoto’s group speaks about bandits that kidnapped students

The Sultan of Sokoto-led Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has warned that Boko Haram might have infiltrated to areas where banditry now thrives.

JNI in a statement on Friday, February 19, condemned the attack on the Government Science College, Kagara, Niger state, Vanguard reported.

The secretary of the group, Khalid Aliyu, said the abduction of students from the school would not have occurred if there was adequate security at the institution.

He said the bandits share the same ideas as Boko Haram insurgents.

Aliyu said:

''Make no mistake, the abduction is a classic example of the philosophical foundation of Boko Haram – that western education is forbidden.

According to The Cable, JNI said Niger state has become infamous following serial attacks by bandits and other criminals in the recent past.

The association urged the government to do everything possible to secure Nigeria from criminals

It also demanded that concerted efforts must be made to return all the kidnapped passengers and the abducted staff and students unhurt.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, is the president-general of Jama’atu Nasril Islam.

In another news, in reacting to the abduction of Kagara students of Government Science College in Niger, one of the state's senators, Sani Musa (Niger East), said the abductors were terrorists, not bandits as popularly assumed.

Speaking with Channels TV on Wednesday, February 17, Musa likened the unfortunate abduction to that of Chibok (Borno), Dapchi (Yobe), and Kankara (Katsina).

The senator warned that the efforts against the activities of bandits and terrorists must be intensified by the government because nobody knows which schools will be attacked next.

Meanwhile, the security team dispatched from Abuja to Niger state for the rescue of Kagara students and workers has located the captives in the recesses of a forest.

This was confirmed by a security agent who confided in The Punch on the condition of anonymity on Thursday, February 18.

According to the source, the abductors of the students, staff members, and the passengers belong to the same gang.
