Address rising spate of insecurity in the southwest, leaders tell Buhari

- Southwest leaders have called on President Buhari to urgently address the rising spate of insecurity in the region

President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to urgently address the rising spate of insecurity in the southwest.

The call was made by leaders of the Yoruba socio-cultural group,Afenifere and the southwest security stakeholders' Group (SSSG).

Also, the group declared its support to the southwest security Network codenamed operation Amotekun.

Speaking at the event, Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, who is also the chairman and convener of the meeting said the issue of insecurity is between life and death, and as such, it must be addressed in the most strategical manner.

Meanwhile, the publicity secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin faulted the political structure and arrangements in the country.

He said a multinational state such as Nigeria must be built on respect for different human components making up the sovereign nation.

Leaders of other groups present at the meeting include the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) Agbekoya, Vigilante, Hunters, Comsaic, Egbe Isokan Oodua, and Egbe Olode Ibarapa.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu stated that Sunday Adeyemi also known as Igboho, who championed activism against herdsmen, became prominent because of certain circumstances.

The governor made the statement on Monday, February 15, during an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today.

The Ondo governor noted that he does not support illegality and people taking laws into their hands, noting that that is why he has been advocating for people in the southwest to shun violence or jungle justice.
