Igboayaka urged the members of the public to disregard such reports and not take them seriously.

He explained that the military is merely conducting a routine check by combing the bushes in the area to ensure it was crime-free and devoid of armed criminal gangs who may be hanging around to foment trouble or cause disorder.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian military had commenced operations in Imo in search of the camps occupied by the personnel of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) linked with the proscribed group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The operations, however, caused panic in Orlu and Orsu local government areas of Imo state.

The army spokesperson of the 34 artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri, Imo state, Babatunde Zubairu, who confirmed the operation, said the locals were not being harassed.
