Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has slammed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's teammates claiming that they are relying much on these two superstars because they are not good enough.

The Frenchman made this declaration following defeats for Barcelona and Juventus in the Champions League in which both Lionel Messi and Ronaldo failed to help their club.

France international Kylian Mbappe was the man of the match in his side's Champions League encounter against Barcelona scoring three goals which helped Paris Saint-Germain.

Lionel Messi scored Barcelona's only goal in the heavy home defeat against Paris Saint-Germain at Camp Nou.

Last season, Barcelona were also humiliated in the Champions League loss against Bayern Munich who went on to lift the trophy.

Cristiano Ronaldo on the other hand tried his best for his team which was not enough as they suffered a defeat against FC Porto in their own Champions League round of 16 first leg.

As things stand now, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo together with their teammates will have to raise their games in the return leg for the chance of qualifying for the next round.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, Arsene Wenger explained that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are being relied upon too much by their teammates:

"It's a problem that Juve are only relying on Ronaldo and that just shows that the players around him just aren't good enough.
"It's the same for Messi. If the team is overly reliant on Messi, it's because the players around him are not good enough.”

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Cristiano Ronaldo is having difficulties adapting to Andrea Pirlo's tactics at Juventus claims Italian legend, Antonio Cassano.

The 36-year-old watched as the Old Lady extend their winless run to three games in all competitions after their 2-1 defeat to FC Porto in the first leg of their Champions League rounds of 16 game on Wednesday, February 17.

Having failed to find the back of the net, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was spotted lamenting to the referee for denying him a penalty call in the last minute of the encounter at the Estadio do Dragao.
