Kagara abduction: CDD asks FG to declare state of emergency on growing insecurity

- The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has called for a state of emergency on the growing insecurity across Nigeria

- CDD also called for the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted students of Government Science College Kagara, Niger state

- The centre said kidnapping school children have become the easiest way to get money from the government

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) on Wednesday, February 27, called on the federal government to immediately declare a state of emergency on the growing insecurity in Nigeria.

CDD's call followed the abduction of some students of Government Science College (GSC) in Kagara, Rafi local government area of Niger state.

The centre in a statement signed by its director, Idayat Hassan, and seen by Legit.ng, called for the unconditional release of the students abducted from GSC Kagara by unknown gunmen.

Hassan asks the Nigerian government and all relevant security authorities to do everything within their power to ensure the rescue of all the abductees.

She said the continued abduction of school children from places of learning is evidence that the government has failed in this particular role to protect the people especially for the school children in states across the nation.

Hassan said:

“Nigeria has to come to terms that she has a huge security problem on her hands and act decisively. The country has to declare a state of emergency on insecurity across board. And must synergise efforts with our sub-nationals."
"There must an agreement for instance on no ransom, no amnesty policy as they fight with boots on the ground."

The CDD director also said that it is unfortunate that kidnapping school children have become the easiest way to get money from the government.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported the Niger state government has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding schools in the state.

The order was given on Wednesday, February 17, by the state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, after the abduction of school children of Government Science College, Kagara in Rafi local government area of the state by gunmen.

Also, the Niger state government has released a complete list of students who were abducted by some gunmen from GSC Kagara.

The bandits were said to have abducted 27 students and three teachers. Others abducted are two non-teaching staff and nine family members of the staff who are staying in the quarters.
