Kagara abduction: Stop rewarding criminality, Atiku reacts, sends message to FG

Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president of Nigeria has spoken against the recent abduction of some students from the Government Science College, Kagara, in the Rafi local government area of Niger state.

Speaking on the disturbing development, Atiku warned that Nigeria must stop rewarding criminality, adding that it would result in more crimes being committed, Channels TV reports.

Atiku who described the current menace as alarming explained that allowing criminals to profit from their criminality is not a solution.

The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate made this known in a statement he signed personally on Wednesday, February 17.

While lamenting over the deteriorating state of insecurity in Nigeria, Atiku called on the federal government to tackle cases of abductions by ending what he calls the reign of impunity.

Buhari reacts to Niger school abduction

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the abduction of some students in Niger state.

The president in a statement through a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, disclosed that he has directed the armed forces and police to ensure the immediate and safe return of all the captives.

He urged members of the armed forces to do everything necessary to secure the release of the students and prevent a repeat of the attacks on schools in the future.

Niger government orders closure of schools

In a related development, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state ordered the immediate closure of all boarding schools in Rafi, Mariga, Munya, and Shiroro local government areas of the state.

Bello told journalists on Wednesday, February 17, that order was a security measure to save the life of the students.
