Popular Nigerian actor joins APC ahead of 2023 elections

- A renowned Nigerian playwright has become the newest member of the ruling APC

Famous Nollywood actor, Jimi Solanke, a veteran in the movie industry on Wednesday, February 17, officially joined the country's governing party - All Progressives Congress (APC).

Just like so many Nigerians across the country, Solanke registered his membership at the ruling party.

The storyteller extraordinaire took part in the nationwide exercise at polling unit 3, Ward 7, Ipara Remo, Remo north local government, Ogun state to demonstrate his loyalty to the party.

A photo of the 78-year-old poet spotted registering his membership in the southwest was shared on Twitter by @SulaiOdus.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that famous Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has been endorsed by his father, Pete Edochie (who is a veteran in the movie industry) to run for the 2023 presidential election.

Yul revealed his father's full support for his presidential ambition on his Instagram page on Thursday, February 12.

In the less-than-three-minute video tagged:

"My Father Chief Pete Edochie endorses my 2023 Presidential ambition. God Almighty, take absolute control."

Former chief of army staff joins APC

In a related development, Nigeria's former chief of army staff Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd) on Tuesday, February 16 officially defected to the APC.

Ihejirika was Nigeria's army chief between 2010 to 2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He has been rumoured to be preparing to join partisan politics in his home state of Abia for over a year.

Ihejirika, 65, announced his decision to join the APC at his Isuikwuato country home in Abia-North senatorial district.
