Barely four days after some leaders of the southeast stormed the National Assembly to demand the creation of another state for the zone in the spirit of fairness, a former senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted.

Legit.ng reports that Sani, who represented Kaduna Central at the Senate during the 8th National Assembly, asked the leaders to jettison their agitation for the creation of more states.

He said if they understand the cumbersome procedure in the constitution, they would shelve the idea.

Shehu Sani said:

"If those who are agitating for new states read the cumbersome procedure in the constitution, they will not waste their time."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that some Igbo leaders led by Chief John Nwodo, former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Wednesday, February 10, visited the National Assembly to demand the creation of another southeast state from Enugu.

It was reported that Nwodo met with all the key officials in the National Assembly to push for the new state which he called 'Adada' adding it was approved at the 2014 national conference.

Responding to the demand during a meeting with the delegation, Senate President Ahmad Lawan said it is a legitimate agitation.

In another report, Sheu Sani slammed Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, for defending and justifying Fulani herders carrying AK-47 rifles.

In a tweet on Friday, February 12, the former senator who represented Kaduna Central at the 8th Senate, said justifying the bearing of the dangerous weapon by herdsmen "amounts to baptizing infamy."

Also, Sani condemned the federal government's plan to renovate the National Theatre in Surulere, Lagos with N21 billion.

The ex-lawmaker tweeted his support for plans to renovate the edifice but frowned at the amount it will cost. He described the amount quoted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as unbelievable.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had on Wednesday, February 10, approved an agreement that will lead to the renovation of the facility.

The National Arts Theatre is a monument located in Iganmu, Surulere, Lagos as a primary centre for the performing arts in the country.
