Anti-corruption group says Bawa is the best thing to happen to EFCC

A group, Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum has commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the nomination of Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, as the new helmsman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

By the appointment, the 40-year-old Bawa becomes the youngest person to chair the commission since its inception in 2003.

Also, for the first time since the establishment of the EFCC, the chairman of the agency is emerging from the trained cadets of the commission.

Bawa holds a B.Sc degree in Economics, and Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy and he is presently the head of operations of the commission’s Lagos office.

Bawa, aged 40, who holds a B.Sc degree in Economics, and Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy, is presently the Head of Operations of the Commission’s Lagos office.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Tuesday, February 16, and signed by its chairman, Comrade Prince Kpokpogri, the group described the choice of Bawa as the best thing to have happened at the leadership level of the EFCC.

Kpokpogri further said Bawa's 16 years of experience on the job will be an added advantage to the EFCC.

Part of the statement read:

“Having served and grew under all EFCC past chairpersons, starting with Nuhu Ribadu, who recruited the first set of civilians into EFCC (including Bawa) in 2005, the competence of Bawa is not in doubt.
“Bawa was trained by the FBI, KPMG, and many other institutions in the UK, United States, and Nigeria.”

The forum, however, called on the Nigerian Senate to give the new EFCC boss fear screening.

According to Kpokpogri, Bawa has a listening ear and will always ready to consult and carry all the stakeholders along.

Legit.ng gathered that Bawa is a trained EFCC investigator with vast experience in the investigation and prosecution of Advance Fee Fraud cases, official corruption, bank fraud, laundering and other economic crimes.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Bawa has been appointed as the substantive chairman of the EFCC by President Muhammadu Buhari via a statement issued by Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesman on Tuesday, February 16.

The president also asked the Senate to confirm Bawa's nomination as the country's anti-corruption czar.
