Amid defection rumour, PDP leaders meet Goodluck Jonathan

Former president Goodluck Jonathan has met with the party’s reconciliation and strategy committee as part of efforts to resolve the internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Nation reports that the party had last year appointed former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, to head its national reconciliation committee.
Legit.ng gathered that the committee also has a one-time Senate president, Anyim Pius Anyim, and ex-governor of Cross River state Liyel Imoke as members.

Other members of the committee include former Gombe governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, ex-Katsina governor, Ibrahim Shema and Mulikat Akande.
Saraki announced the meeting on his verified Twitter handle, @bukolasaraki on Tuesday, February 16.
Some leaders of the PDP were jittery last year over ex-president Jonathan’s meeting with some chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including governors.
Saraki had assured that the committee would embark on genuine reconciliation in order to strengthen the party structures across the nation.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Jonathan dismissed the rumour that he was planning to join the APC to pursue a presidential ambition in 2023.
It was reported that the former president affirmed his loyalty to the PDP, describing the party as an organisation that carries people along.

The former president made the statement at a thanksgiving service held to mark the one-year administration of Governor Douye Diri in Bayelsa state.
He advised politicians to shun politics of bitterness in the interest of promoting peace and development.
In another report, Jonathan celebrated the birth of Reno Omokri's child.
The president who was happy at the birth commended the parents for naming her after him, asking God to bless her as she grows in more wisdom and stature.
The former president disclosed this on his Facebook page on Monday, February 15.
