Bandits in trouble as police begins special operation to flush out banditry

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu on Monday, February 15 flagged-off a special security action plan, code-named ‘Operation Puff Adder II ’ to reinforce the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in the country.

A statement sent to Legit.ng by the spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Frank Mba, stated that the new special operation will be intelligence-led and community-driven.

Mba also said the operation will be executed in sustained collaboration with the Armed Forces, the intelligence community, and other sister security agencies.

Part of the statement read:

“The operation is aimed at dislodging bandits from their current operational spaces and denying them space to regroup in other parts of the country.”

Meanwhile, a video that shows the aftermath of how a man and his driver were rescued from the hands of kidnappers on a highway by policemen has emerged.

The video was shared on Twitter by a Nigerian on Sunday, February 14 using the handle @Favbreed1.

Many Nigerians who watched the video, hailed the policemen for their gallantry and successfully repelling the criminals.

In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched a new mobile phone app called “NPF Rescue Me.”

The app was launched as a measure to ensure police arrive quickly at crime scenes anywhere in the country.

The newly-launched app is available on Android PlayStore and Apple AppStore for download. A major feature of the app is that a user can press an emergency alert button that automatically goes to the Nigeria Police Force control tower and they can swing to action.
