Hate speech: PDP writes IGP, seeks prosecution of APC chairman

- The PDP has petitioned IGP Mohammed Adamu over the activities of the APC in Kano state

- Nigeria's main opposition party in the petition accused the ruling party of hate speech

- The party claims that the unguarded utterances made by the state APC chairman are inciting

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has written a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, over allegations of hate speech.

In a report by Daily Trust, the PDP alleged that the chairman of the APC in Kano state, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas ordered party members to attack and punish anybody caught trying to steal votes during the 2023 election.

Abbas who was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 44 newly elected local government chairmen allegedly stated that members should take actions into their hands, adding that nothing will happen.

Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, the PDP Kano state chairman noted that the party has drafted a letter to the IGP and other relevant government agencies seeking the prosecution of Abbas over hate speech.

The PDP explained that he is not surprised because it is in the nature of Abbas to make inciting utterances that is hate speech.

While stating that the statements were empty threats, Sagagi added such utterances need to be addressed.

Meanwhile, Salihu Lukman, the director-general of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), said the defection of Femi Fani-Kayode to the APC was stalled due to the strong internal democratic culture of the party.

Lukman, who spoke on Friday, February 12, in a statement obtained by Legit.ng, said Fani-Kayode “was not welcome to join APC because he doesn’t have the values required to be a member.”

According to the PGF DG, the former aviation minister tried to manipulate some leaders of the APC but it was botched based on the ground of moral ethics and values.
